A key benefit of the new Libraries Unlocked service is to grow Worcestershire’s libraries as community assets by opening up their use to more community partners.

Between March and December 2024, just under 1700 hours of community partner led activity was hosted across nine Libraries Unlocked locations, fostering a vibrant community spirit in those libraries outside core staffing hours.

Ben explains how he has taken advantage of extended opening hours and free room hire offered during Libraries Unlocked ours to use Droitwich Library as a venue for his Beavers Group and highlights the benefits of using Libraries Unlocked as a welcoming community space.

“Using the library for the Scouts' Hobby Badge programme during Libraries Unlocked hours was a fabulous experience. It provided a free, well-equipped, and safe space for my Scouts group to complete their Hobby Badge. The space offered the children a new environment to explore hobbies and discover that the library is much more than just a place for reading books. It's a hub for learning, joining groups, picking up new hobbies, accessing technology, and more!”
