Local Transport Body
The Local Transport Body prioritises and oversee the delivery of local major transport infrastructure.
During January 2012 the Department for Transport (DfT) published a consultation paper, entitled Devolving Local Major Transport Schemes. This detailed how major scheme funding for local infrastructure projects could be devolved to a local level between 2015/16 to 2018/19.
The consultation proposed a number of options. The intention was to see Local Transport Bodies (LTBs) established in order to decide which transport investments should be prioritised locally. In response to this, the Worcestershire Local Transport Body (WLTB) was established to prioritise and oversee the delivery of local major transport infrastructure.
The WLTB allocates monies from the Local Growth Fund to support transport related projects.
The primary role of the WLTB is to:
- continue management, oversight and assurance of existing Local Growth Fund /LTB schemes and packages; this will involve the approval of business cases
- evaluate and subsequently promote (where applicable) new transport packages and schemes
- advise and inform the WLEP on transport elements of future rounds of Growth Deals
The Worcestershire LEP website also contains information on the WLTB which can be accessed on the following link Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership - Local Transport Board.
