Primary school aged children, Key Stage 1 and 2, ages 6 to 12

Once at school, libraries support children’s learning outside the classroom with a wide and varied programme of regular library events and activities, class or school visits to the library and outreach visits to schools.

Events and activities range from Lego clubs and code clubs to reading groups and Summer Reading Challenge activities and reinforce key principles established in the classroom through fun, interactive play.

Working closely with local schools, Libraries host library visits for local schools and offer outreach visits to schools, providing focused sessions designed to support national curriculum objectives around literacy, STEM and information searching, helping to inspire children to be ambitious and curious when reading for pleasure and delivering key messages about continuing development and reading beyond the classroom.
