Worcestershire libraries are essential community focal points and often act as hubs for local people. We offer a variety of volunteering opportunities to support delivery of library services and special community projects:

• customer service volunteers:
  • this includes welcoming and greeting library customers, shelving, tidying and processing library stock and supporting library teams in the service we deliver to the public
  • some volunteers could also support events
• digital champion volunteers:
  • this will include providing digital support to local library customers in need of IT guidance
  • your IT knowledge could also be used to support our community projects
• library service at home volunteers:
  • this will include you identifying and selecting books for our customers in need and delivering them to customer’s homes.

As a Libraries Volunteer you can offer as much or as little of your time as you want, in order to suit your lifestyle. Ideally our Libraries Service are looking for individuals who can commit to a weekly session of about 2 hours.

The Countryside Service has volunteer opportunities for Site Work party Volunteering:

• Leapgate Old Railway Line, 
• Hartlebury Common, 
• St Wulstan's Local Nature Reserve

Volunteers working with the Countryside Service staff have the opportunity to meet new people, get fresh air and exercise, learn new skills such as coppicing, hedge laying, orchard restoration and willow weaving, whilst making a contribution to the management of the parks, so enhancing the environment of the local area.

Please be aware that we have a limit of 10 volunteer spaces only for this opportunity.

Worcestershire County Council Day Services provide essential community and building based support for vulnerable adults with learning disabilities, physical, communication and complex health needs.

It is a safe and homely environment for people to build friendships, access fun and meaningful activities whilst providing respite and support to their parents and carers.

Individuals come to the resource centres between 1 and 5 days per week, Monday to Friday 9:00am to 3:30pm.   

We offer two volunteering opportunities which will support delivery of these services as follows:

Activity Coordinating Volunteers

This ideally would be two sessions, consisting of 2 hours each per week, 10:00 am to 12:00pm and 1:00pm to 3:00pm on conveniently identified days which are open for discussion.

The type of activities could be focused around seasonal or cultural themes, music and drama, arts and crafts, gardening, cooking, wellbeing, beauty, exercise and accessing the community, just to name a few. We remain open to ideas that could stimulate the mental and physical well-being of our individuals.

All the individuals would be supported to access the sessions and the staff would remain present at all times for health and safety purposes, so volunteers would not be lone working. 

Digital Champion Volunteers

This will provide digital support to staff and individuals who are in need of IT guidance and confidence building. Times and days to be agreed.

As a Volunteer you can offer as much or as little of your time as you want, in order to suit your lifestyle but ideally our Services are looking for individuals who can commit too at least two weekly sessions of about 2 hours.

Public Health Worcestershire Health Champions are people who, either out of personal interest or as part their role, volunteer to help share information about local health information to help improve the health and wellbeing of their communities.

What does a Worcestershire Health Champion do?

Our health champions work closely with the public health team to share information so our communities can make informed decisions around their own health and wellbeing. We support our health champions by providing them with:

• a monthly newsletter
• a dedicated and update webpage
• opportunities for training
• campaign resources and toolkits
• information around current public consultations (related to health)
• information around funding opportunities (related to health)

If you are someone who:

• lives or works in Worcestershire and over the age of 18
• you are passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of people who live and work in Worcestershire
• you can share health information, health related public consultations etc through social connections
• you want to make a positive difference in your community by supporting people to live well in good health for as long as possible, particularly those who have poorer health outcomes

Worcestershire Residential Services are registered homes where individuals live with support in aspects of daily life. We have services that offer support with older people living with a dementia, and adults living with a learning disability, long and short-stay services. 

We offer a variety of volunteering opportunities to support delivery of person-centred activities alongside existing staff:

Activity Volunteers

This includes spending time with people using the service, supporting them with activities they are interested in from, games, arts and crafts, to excursions including shopping, walking or visiting local amenities. Some volunteers could also support events based at the home.

Befriending Volunteers

This will include linking with a specific individual at the service and developing their reminiscence tools, such as scrap books, or digital folders. Enabling people to stay linked to things that are important to them. Also, to look at planned goals and identifying interests that can be developed and provide stimulation and interest. Linking with families and friends that know them well.  

We have volunteering opportunities at the following areas: 

• Stourport
• Pershore
• Bromsgrove
• Malvern

As a Residential Volunteer you can offer as much or as little of your time as you want, in order to suit your lifestyle. Ideally our Services are looking for individuals who can commit to a weekly session of about 2 hours.

This is a great opportunity for you to volunteer your help to deliver some fantastic, themed family activities during the school holidays. Based at County Museum, Hartlebury Castle. Full training will be given – no experience is necessary, just a friendly attitude and willingness to work with people of all ages. 

Tea and coffee will also be provided!

Ideally, we would love to have volunteers offer 2 and a half hours per day during the Summer Tuesday to Thursday and October and February half-terms too (days vary).

Become part of something special at The Commandery. We have a range of volunteering opportunities to suit all interests. Becoming a volunteer can help you to learn new skills, improve wellbeing, all whilst spending time with like-minded people.

• Events and Activities Volunteer: as a volunteer you will help to prepare and deliver fun and engaging holiday activities, including crafts, painting, Christmas decorations and more
• Education Volunteer: support the learning team during school visits, help to answer questions and guide classes through the self-led tour
• Gardening Volunteer: join the gardening team and improve the Commandery’s historic green spaces
• Visitor Welcome Volunteer: make visitor experiences that bit more special by answering questions, highlighting upcoming events and helping people navigate the site

Full training is given for all volunteer opportunities. Tea and coffee provided too!

Our volunteering opportunities are flexible to suit you from Tuesdays to Sundays with Gardening Volunteering taking place on Thursdays.
