Safeguarded minerals: Q16 enquires

Self-service checks for conveyancing enquiries on mineral safeguarding areas and mineral consultation areas.

We, the Council, hold data on Minerals Safeguarding Areas and Minerals Consultation Areas. This data can be used to answer “Question 16” enquiries, one of the standard optional questions which may be asked by solicitors or property search companies when carrying out searches in property conveyancing.

Question 16 (Q16) of the ‘Optional enquiries of local authorities’ form, which is a standard property search form used in England, asks “Is the area a mineral consultation area or mineral safeguarding area notified by the county planning authority under Schedule 1 para 7 of the Town & Country Planning Act 1990?”

How the Council answers Q16 enquiries

The Council does not currently charge a fee for answering Q16 enquiries. See our: Interactive Minerals Mapping Tool, which displays the Mineral Consultation Areas (MCA) and Minerals Safeguarding Areas (MSA).

The map provides a self-service option allowing anyone to identify whether any area in Worcestershire is within an MCA or MSA.

How to use the map

The MCAs and MSAs can be shown by clicking the plus sign to expand ‘Adopted Policies Map’ in the key on the left of the screen, then clicking to expand ‘Safeguarding Mineral Resources’, ‘Mineral Safeguarding Areas’ and ‘Mineral Consultation Areas’. The MSAs and MCAs for the various types of minerals in Worcestershire can then be turned on and off (if you cannot see a key on the left, please refresh the webpage).
