We need former students to help local schools with careers education
- directly link curriculum subjects to the world of work to provide meaningful information and support
- inspire students from your old school and support the education establishment that helped you in the past
- help young people understand the skills and qualifications they need to enter the world of work
- provide accurate “next steps” information about the careers choices you have made
- encourage your friends and colleagues to increase employer participation in your local school
Alumni are a great cohort of people associated with schools which have direct links to local employers. Strengthening alumni participation within schools will significantly increase employer participation and could see an increase in activity supporting Benchmarks 4,5 and 6.

Gatsby benchmark 5: Encounters with employers and employees
Every year, from the age of 11, pupils should participate in at least one meaningful encounter with an employer. A ‘meaningful encounter’ is one in which the student has an opportunity to learn about what work is like or what it takes to be successful in the workplace. This can be done through a range of activities. The documents below offer support and templates that can be used in your educational establishment to support you with the organisation and implementation of “Speed Dating”

In order to carry out meaningful careers related activities it is important that you have employers who can support you with the delivery.
You can find Worcestershire employers in your district who can support with a range of careers related activities.
If you would like to develop your own network of support, the Parent Pledge campaign has been designed as a ready to go campaign that educational establishments can use to encourage parents of students to sign up and pledge their support to your careers programme.
All of the resources needed to run the campaign can be downloaded below.
