Worcestershire County Council’s Skills & Employability Service has been recognised among the best in the country, securing a place as a finalist in the 2025 Local Government Chronicle (LGC) Awards.

The service is one of just six teams shortlisted for the ‘Large Team of the Year’ award, selected from over 200 entries nationwide. This recognition highlights the team’s commitment to delivering innovative and impactful programmes that help Worcestershire residents develop skills, access training, and secure employment.

From supporting young people and adults into work to empowering businesses with a skilled workforce, the service plays a vital role in Worcestershire’s economy. Key initiatives include Careers Worcestershire, Adult and Young Adult Learning, Worcestershire Apprenticeships, Careers & Enterprise Company, SkillsBoost, Worcestershire Skills Show, SENDIASS, Inclusive Worcestershire, and the Skills for Life: Skills Bootcamps and Multiply programmes.

Councillor Adam Kent, Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Skills and Economy at Worcestershire County Council, said: “It’s encouraging to see our Skills & Employability team recognised as a finalist in these awards. Their work plays an important part in supporting Worcestershire’s economy by helping residents build skills and access opportunities. This nomination is a testament to the team’s commitment and the council’s focus on providing practical support to both individuals and businesses in the county.”

The Skills & Employability Service collaborates with national and county partners to maximise funding and opportunities, ensuring residents benefit from high-quality skills, training, and employment support.

Judy Gibbs, Head of Skills & Employability at Worcestershire County Council and Director of Skills for Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership, said: "I am over the moon that we’ve been shortlisted. This recognition belongs to every single member of our team. Their dedication, passion, and expertise drive our success. Whether guiding people with career choices, supporting young people with additional needs, or helping adults gain qualifications, each person plays a crucial role in transforming lives. I am incredibly proud of the work we do, and it’s fantastic to see that recognised on a national stage."

The LGC Awards 2025 now move to the final judging stage, with winners announced at a ceremony at Grosvenor House, London, on 11 June 2025.
