The brand new Pershore Northern Link Road is now formally open.
The road, which includes a new bridge over the North Cotswold railway line, opened in September 2022 and provides a link between the A44/B4083 and B4083 Wyre Road roundabouts north of Pershore.
Councillors and officers from Worcestershire County Council were joined at a formal opening event on Friday 25 November by representatives from Wychavon District Council, Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership, Jacobs, Harriett Baldwin MP, and other local interested stakeholders.
Councillor Marc Bayliss, Worcestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Economy, Infrastructure and Skills, said: “It’s great that this brand-new road is open, and I hope people travelling within the area are really seeing the benefits it brings.
“This link road is one of many major infrastructure projects that Worcestershire County Council has delivered in the past few years, sitting alongside the completion of Worcestershire Parkway Station, the A4440 Southern Link Road, Hoobrook Roundabout and most recently a new roundabout at the A38/A4104 junction just outside Upton upon Severn.
“It was good to come together today to formally open the road, and I’d like to say a thank you to FerryFast for hosting the event.”
The works, which aim to reduce congestion, improve traffic links and enhance cycling and walking routes, in and around the Pershore area have been delivered in close partnership with, and part funded by Wychavon District Council.
Councillor Bradley Thomas, Leader of Wychavon District Council, said: “I’m delighted our investment has helped make this long campaigned for road a reality. Both residents and businesses are already seeing the benefits of this project. It’s another example of how Wychavon is working with partners to invest in making our district an even better place to live, work, and visit.”
The scheme, which supports economic growth and development in Pershore, received investment from the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership via the Government’s Local Growth Fund.
Gary Woodman, Chief Executive of the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “The opening of the Pershore Northern Link Road is a great achievement for the county and will help to provide better connectivity across the county for people, working, living or visiting Worcestershire.
“The Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership is pleased to be able to support the scheme via investment from the Government’s Local Growth Fund, which has also seen numerous developments in Pershore to improve connectivity by car, but also importantly active travel options.”
These works are part of the wider Pershore Infrastructure Improvements Scheme, which included the construction of a new cycle/footway on Wyre Road, as well as the installation of a new kerb line, enhanced drainage and additional street lighting.
Works also took place to make improvements to Pinvin Junction, which included the construction of a new slip road, the widening of approaches to the junction and the addition of new footways; works have also been undertaken to make improvements to the Station Road/Wyre Road junction.
