Worcestershire’s Largest Skills Show Returns

The county’s largest careers event, which is delivered by Worcestershire County Council and Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), took place on Wednesday 8 March 2023, and saw over 3,000 young people from over 30 Worcestershire school attend, alongside over 60 employers and education providers.

While this year’s Skills Show differed to previous years by being an invitation event for Worcestershire schools and their Year 7 to 10 students, the aim remained firmly focused on giving Worcestershire residents the opportunity to learn more about career pathways available to them and to gain insight into the skills and qualifications that local employers are looking for.

Throughout the day, attendees were able to engage with a range of exciting local employers from industries including science, technology, engineering, IT, hospitality, healthcare, business professional services, public services, as well as local colleges and education providers. Each stand was given the challenge of bringing along a ‘have-a-go’ activity to help spark curiosity and make every careers conversation interesting and engaging for the young people attending.

Worcestershire County Councillor Marc Bayliss, cabinet member for Economy Infrastructure and Skills said: “The Worcestershire Skills Show is a great opportunity to highlight what our county has to offer, while supporting and inspiring those taking their first steps towards a career. I’m delighted to see the event return with such a successful turn out of young people and local employers.”

Judy Gibbs, Worcestershire LEP Director of Skills added, “The Worcestershire Skills Show this year was such a great event. It was fantastic to see so many young people and employers attending at Sixways Stadium. Over three thousand students came to visit local businesses that were all on hand to share their expertise. It is so important that we support our local young people to understand what future careers are available here in Worcestershire, and it's equally important that Worcestershire employers get involved to tell our young people what they need from them in the future."
