Worcestershire County Council has warmly welcomed the announcement from the Department for Education that the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme will be extended for another year.
This vital initiative provides families with children receiving benefits related free school meals with enriching activities and nutritious meals during school holidays.
Since its inception, the HAF programme has been a lifeline for families across Worcestershire, ensuring that children have access to healthy food and engaging activities while also easing financial pressures on parents and carers.
Councillor David Chambers, Cabinet Member for Education at Worcestershire County Council, said: “We are delighted by the news that the Holiday Activities and Food programme will continue for another year. This initiative has made a real difference to families in Worcestershire, providing children with opportunities to learn, play, and grow while ensuring they have access to nutritious meals.
“The extension of the HAF programme reflects a clear commitment to supporting the well-being and development of young people in our community. As a council, we will continue working with local schools, community organisations, and providers to ensure the programme remains accessible and impactful for those who need it most.”
The HAF programme is aimed at children eligible for free school meals or children who have been referred by professionals and offers a mix of enriching activities such as sports, arts, and cooking, alongside a healthy meal and snack. Parents are encouraged to check the council’s website for updates on the programme and how to participate.
