Worcestershire County Council has been shortlisted for a National Energy Efficiency Award.

The National Energy Efficiency Awards recognise outstanding achievements in the energy industry and celebrates successes and best practices.

The County Council has been shortlisted in the ‘National Council/Local Authority of the Year’ category.

The awards submission demonstrated the multifaceted approach to supporting homeowners, businesses and public sector organisations, as well as improvements made to its estate and steps taken to develop staff knowledge.

Councillor Richard Morris, Worcestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member with Responsibility for the Environment, said: “This nomination follows our recent success at the Energy Efficiency Awards for the West Midlands, where we scooped the equivalent regional award.

“To be shortlisted on a national scale is a testament to the dedication of all involved and demonstrates our commitment to fostering sustainable energy practices and driving positive environmental change in the county.”

The entry showcased initiatives such as Solar Together and programmes to tackle fuel poverty; The Household Support Fund and Sustainable Warmth. It also outlined the key role the Council plays in supporting businesses to increase their energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions through a variety of support programmes and grant opportunities.

Worcestershire County Council is committed to creating fairness and improving wellbeing, developing the Green Economy, taking action to tackle climate change; and protecting and enhancing the natural environment.

The National Council/Local Authority of the Year category specifically celebrates those that have demonstrated positive impact within the local community, level of expertise the council has within its own teams, and the work the council is delivering to tackle fuel poverty.

The winners of the Awards will be announced at a ceremony on 29 September.
