Worcester-based firm leads the way as first company to complete Worcestershire County Council’s Elevate Manufacturing Programme.
Wickens Engineering Ltd, a leading UK manufacturer of industrial racking, is set to double its sales by 2028, thanks to its involvement in the groundbreaking Elevate Manufacturing Programme. Created by Worcestershire County Council and delivered by Oxford Innovation Advice, the programme offers tailored support to help manufacturers break through growth barriers and unlock their full potential.
Operations Director Mark Rawlings worked closely with a dedicated growth manager, who helped identify opportunities for the company to enhance productivity, reduce solvent paint usage, and improve their workforce’s skills.
Mark Rawlings, Operations Director at Wickens Engineering Ltd, said: “We’ve seen substantial growth in recent years, with turnover increasing by £3m following strong orders from the automotive, marine, recycling, construction, and retail sectors.”
“Through the Programme, we identified a need to expand our service offering with larger powder coating capabilities, which has unlocked new potential and allowed us to provide even better service to our customers.
Councillor Adam Kent, Worcestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy and Skills, said: “We are delighted to see Wickens Engineering Ltd flourish through the Elevate Manufacturing Programme. This success story truly demonstrates the power of tailored support to help businesses in our region tap into their full potential, streamline their operations, and drive sustainable, long-term growth.
The support and grant have helped the company to invest in consultancy services that have improved efficiency in all areas of the business. As a result, Wickens Engineering Ltd now offers customers longer-length steel powder coated products and has streamlined its coating process with a faster, more efficient electrostatic spray gun, resulting in a superior finish.
The Elevate Manufacturing Programme offers businesses personalised support from an experienced growth manager, along with match-funded grants that cover up to 40% of project costs. Participants also gain access to valuable manufacturing masterclasses on topics like digital manufacturing, supply chain management, and operational efficiency.
