As schools break up this week across the county for their Christmas break, Councillor Tracey Onslow, Cabinet Member for Education has written an open letter to schools, colleges, nurseries and early years settings.
In her letter, Councillor Onslow, who took over as the County Council’s Cabinet Member for Education in May this year, said that she was really grateful for the warm welcome she’d received from pupils and staff, when she had been out visiting schools in her new role. It had also been encouraging to hear staff and students talk positively about their experiences of school life, and the progress they feel they’ve made after a really difficult couple of years during the pandemic.
Councillor Tracey Onslow, Worcestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for Education, said: “As the end of term and the year draws near, I would like to express my most sincere gratitude to all of the staff working in education and across early years settings. The hard work, support and dedication you continue to provide to the children and young people of Worcestershire throughout the last 12 months does not go unnoticed or unappreciated by all of the local school communities across the county.
“The physical and mental wellbeing of our children and young people, families and staff remains of upmost importance and the impact that this has on them attending, being included in and participating in school life. As we approach 2023, we will continue to work closely together with your school community and our colleagues in education and health to ensure you remain fully supported to face whatever challenges are presented to us and help you to adapt to overcome them.
“To those leaders or staff leaving schools or settings at the end of this term I would like to say a big thank you for all you have done, and would like to take the opportunity to wish you all the very best for the future.
“And finally, on behalf of everyone at Worcestershire County Council and Worcestershire Children First I would like to thank you for your continued support this year and wish you all a happy, healthy and safe Christmas and New Year.”
