Worcestershire County Council is offering online courses to help guide adult learners on the right path to becoming a teaching assistant.

The Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools will aim to develop the essential skills and knowledge needed to provide support in a school environment, including safeguarding and communication methods.

Councillor Marc Bayliss cabinet member for Economy and Skills at Worcestershire County Council said, “Following the success of the previous course, which took place during a difficult time at the beginning of the year, we’re really pleased to be able to offer this again to adult learners wanting to progress their careers in teaching support.”

Adult learners that took part in the previous course are already starting to see the fruits of their hard work, with a previous student saying, “After starting this course, I felt excited to be on track to gaining a career in Education.

I have now successfully gained a 1:1 SEND teaching assistant position in a school and had the support of a wonderful tutor who helped discuss what might come up during the interview. I feel this course has given me a brilliant foundation and insight into being a teaching assistant.”

The courses, which start on Wednesday 5 January and Tuesday 1 March, are open to anyone to join, regardless of previous qualifications, and a work placement isn’t required, with those meeting criteria able to sign up for free.

Worcestershire County Council are also offering Support Teaching & Learning Advice Appointments every Wednesday from 9am to 3pm for those wanting to find out more about becoming a teaching assistant from qualified and experienced teaching staff.

If you’re interested in booking onto the course or booking an advice appointment, please go to the Courses page of the County Council website.
