Two adults sitting together on a chair

This week is Adult Safeguarding Week.

This is an important moment for the Worcestershire Safeguarding Adults Board which provides safeguarding support to families who need it.

During Adult Safeguarding Week, Worcestershire County Council is highlighting the work of the Adult Safeguarding Board by hearing from the independent chair, Keith Brown, and how in his own words we can all have a role in caring for vulnerable members of the community.

Two new podcasts are out now on the Safeguarding Worcestershire website and shine a light on important areas within the Safeguarding Community, such as Executive Function and Fraud and Scams.

In the podcasts, Keith Brown, a national expert in social care and safeguarding training, uses his own life experience to explain what executive function is, how it can affect families, what signs to look out for in those you are caring for, and how to report any concerns.

Keith reflects on his own experiences, like caring for his mother who has dementia and the difficulty that caused for her, alongside personalised graphics that add a visual and touching element to the story.

Professor Keith Brown said: “These animated podcasts are designed to help all involved in caring for vulnerable relatives and members of our community to better understand the issues of fraud and scams and how dementia affects the way a person’s ability to care for themself is affected as dementia takes hold. They are really accessible and valuable so please do use them with your relatives and colleagues.”

The focus of National Safeguarding Week is to highlight key safeguarding issues, start conversations and raise awareness of safeguarding best practices.

Here in Worcestershire, Worcestershire Safeguarding Adults Board are focusing on raising awareness of the Mental Capacity Act, and the impact this legislation can have on all members of the family, from those who are recognised carers, to those with care and support needs.
