Spring into action this Easter at Worcestershire Libraries

With Easter fast approaching, are you on the hunt for fun things to do with the family?

Don’t worry, you need look no further than your local library. Worcestershire Libraries has it covered with a host of cracking FREE Easter activities for the young and young at heart.

Hannah Perrott, Assistant Director for Communities at Worcestershire County Council said: “Our libraries are the perfect spaces for families to spend quality time together and connect with others in their community. They are a great place to discover and explore through reading, acquire new skills, get creative and have fun, no matter what age you are.

“Library staff have worked hard in the run-up to Easter to put together lots of spring-themed activities designed to entertain, educate and inspire, and don’t forget most of these sessions are completely free. Simply head down to your local library where you’ll find plenty to keep the whole family occupied, whatever the weather throws at us this Easter!”

The fun begins on Saturday 9th April with lots of libraries running an Easter Egg Challenge in collaboration with ‘Starting Well’, the wellbeing self-help reading scheme, and there’s a chocolate egg for everyone who takes part.

Redditch Library is putting on a Cinemaniacs Club Easter Special on the 16 April, screening the movie HOP! This is a free event with popcorn and refreshments available for just £1 per child.

The Hive is hosting an exhibition from the Canal and River’s Trust which explores the world beneath the River Severn and the story of Shad fish migration (9 April to 6 June). Plus, they are running a ‘Float a Boat and Water Safety Workshop (14 April), where children will be rolling up their sleeves and making model boats to find out what makes them float. They will also be welcoming the Dogs Trust (20 April) who will be demonstrating how to behave safely around dogs. All these events are free, but booking is required to secure a place.

There are ‘Lego in the Library’ challenges happening at Catshill and Droitwich, with a ‘Let’s go Wild’ theme encouraging children can make animals as small as an insect or as big as an elephant, the choice is theirs. Droitwich is also running a ‘Bookstagram’ session, yes, it’s the latest thing, a book lover's Instagram account that features a collection of artistically composed photos of books.

Other libraries are getting creative with a range of Easter crafty sessions. Make a ‘Cheeky Chick Card’’ at Evesham, Pershore and Broadway libraries or a ‘Spring Crown’ at Hagley. Kidderminster has an ‘Easter on the Farm’ art session, or you can get your sewing kit out and make your very own felt sheep at Rubery.

For the eco minded Bewdley is celebrating the importance of Bees with a ‘Bee Aware’ workshop where the whole family can find out about the key role they play as pollinators. And if you think you have got green fingers and want to get mucky go along to Evesham, Pershore and Broadway libraries where they are running gardening sessions and planting sunflowers and cress. Check back in the summer to see who has grown the tallest sunflower! 

Malvern is going for a Paddington Bear-themed Storytime Picnic on the 13 and 20 of April with a book hunt and Easter egg crafting, bring your own refreshments, hats and suitcases!
