The Public Health Team at Worcestershire County Council is celebrating more success after the We Are Westlands project was shortlisted for an LGC Public Health Award.

The awards received a record number of entries this year, with organisers praising the exceptionally high standard of submissions, recognising outstanding practice and cutting-edge innovations.

Worcestershire’s shortlisted entry highlights the We Are Westlands project, delivered in Droitwich to support one of the county’s most underserved communities. The initiative has achieved significant, measurable outcomes, including:

  • improved wellbeing and increased community resilience
  • enhanced mental health support
  • sustainable, resident-led wellbeing initiatives
  • reduced stigma surrounding health challenges

The project also serves as a blueprint for expanding place-based support and investment in areas of unmet need across Worcestershire.

Councillor David Ross, cabinet member with responsibility for Health and Wellbeing said: “I’m delighted that this project, and the people of the Westlands Estate, are getting the recognition they deserve. The team works tirelessly to bring partners together, helping people improve their health and wellbeing, which ultimately benefits us all, creating safer, happier, and healthier communities.”

Director of Public Health, Lisa McNally added: “At a time of major change for local councils, it’s more important than ever to recognise the incredible difference teams like ours make to the communities they serve. I’m hugely proud of their achievements and thrilled that we can shine a light on their impactful work.”

This marks the second major success for the Public Health Team this month. The Your Health Team, commissioned by NHS Herefordshire & Worcestershire and Worcestershire County Council, recently won Primary Care Partnership of the Year at the HTN Primary Care Awards.

Shortlisted organisations for the LGC Awards will now present to a judging panel of senior local government figures before the winners are announced at a prestigious ceremony at Grosvenor House, London, on 11 June 2025.
