Phase 4 of the multi-million pound improvement scheme to revitalise key areas of Worcester City Centre is nearing completion.

This phase, included the resurfacing of roads and paths, upgrading of parking bays, installation of new walls and handrails across Trinity Street, St Nicholas Street and The Foregate.

Previous phases of the improvements have been completed in Angel Row, Angel Place, St Swithin’s Street, Trinity Passage and The Cross.

Councillor Marc Bayliss, Worcestershire County Council's Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Economy, Infrastructure and Skills said: “I’m delighted with the works, so far, they’re making a huge difference to the City Centre.

“The work on phase 4 looks great and I am excited to see the results of the next phase of the work.

“This major investment in Worcester brings benefits to local retailers, businesses, residents and visitors.”

Councillor Owen Cleary, vice chair of Worcester City Council’s Place & Economic Development committee, said: “It’s great to see the improvements to our pavements and public realm here in the city centre, its smart new look is making the area more attractive for businesses, visitors and residents alike, helping to give a boost to Worcester’s economy.”

There will be the need to come back later in the year to finish the resurfacing on The Foregate.

Work on phase 5 got underway recently and will see an upgrade to public space on Foregate Street, including new natural stone paving and the signalised pedestrian crossing relocated from near Pierpoint Street to outside the railway station. The bus stops will need to move slightly whilst facilities for taxis will remain as they are now. The carriageway will be resurfaced at a later date.

The improvements are being delivered by Worcestershire County Council in partnership with Worcester City Council.

Work is due to finish in Spring 2024, allowing for a long break over the Christmas period to enable the Victorian Fayre and Christmas shopping to take place undisrupted.

The overall programme is part of the major regeneration of the city centre, funded by £17.9 million from Worcester City Council’s successful bid to the Government’s Future High Streets Fund.
