New crossings have been installed in the Westlands area of Droitwich, providing a major boost for those walking, wheeling and cycling.

The upgrades, carried out by Worcestershire County Council, focused on the Westlands Roundabout and included the installation of two new Toucan Crossings across the western arms of the A38 and an upgraded uncontrolled crossing over Meadow Road.

Works also included a new route linking Kidderminster Road to Westwood Road.

Councillor Marc Bayliss, Worcestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: "This project represents a substantial investment in the safety and accessibility of the Westlands area. The new crossings and improved routes will make it easier for people to move around and marks a significant step forward for the local transport infrastructure.

“I’d like to thank people for their patience, whilst works on these important improvements were taking place and I’d also like to thank Councillor Richard Morris for his commitment in pushing these works forward.

“The improvements will not only make crossing a busy road safer but will also strengthen the links between the Westlands Estate, Droitwich Town Centre, and the Retail Park. This is a clear example of the County Council’s ongoing commitment to enhancing active travel options for everyone in Worcestershire.”

There will be some additional widening works, later in the year, along Kidderminster Road to accommodate a shared use path.

The works have been made possible through funding secured via a successful bid to Active Travel England, which also included support for improvements between Diglis Bridge and Power Park in Worcester.
