New walking and cycling bridge in Worcester given the go ahead

The planning application submitted for another major improvement to the walking and cycling infrastructure in the county has been given the go ahead.

The scheme to deliver Kepax Bridge was approved by the County’s Planning and Regulatory Committee today (28 September).

The bridge aims to provide improved cycle and pedestrian connectivity to the north of Worcester City and to enhance links along the riverside.

Building on the success of Sabrina Bridge and Diglis Bridge, Worcestershire County Council and Worcester City Council are working in partnership to provide this new walking and cycling bridge over the River Severn between Gheluvelt Park and Kepax.

Councillor Alan Amos, Worcestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Highways and Transport, said: “This bridge is another big step forward in our commitment to improving the county’s walking and cycling infrastructure.

“The bridge will improve connectivity in and around Worcester City for commuters and those in the area for leisure purposes.

“We have already delivered a number of schemes to improve walking and cycling routes including a number of improvements in and around Bromsgrove, the opening of Crookbarrow Way, Hams Way and Broomhall Way footbridges in Worcester as part of the Southern Link Road scheme and the full refurbishment of Sabrina Bridge in the centre of Worcester.”

The planning application followed an extensive pre-planning public engagement exercise, which took place last summer.

Following approval, a detailed programme for the works will be developed.
