Libraries across Worcestershire are offering a range of services to help support Ukrainian guests settle across the county, and connect them with other guests and host families.

A new Ukraine Connections service sees local libraries hosting regular social events for Ukrainian visitors and their host families living in the area has launched recently and has already had a positive effect on the county’s newest residents.

One of the guests was so impressed by the support at her local library, they shared this comment on their social media after the event: “Thanks a lot for your kind hearts. This morning made my day and my next month, next time I will come with my son to meet other children as well. You are a great team.”

Ukraine Connections Sessions
Library Date Time
Kidderminster Library Every month alternating between Friday mornings and Tuesday evenings 9:30am to 11:30am and Tuesday evenings from 4pm to 7pm
Malvern Library Wednesday 1 June 2pm to 3pm
Bromsgrove Library Monday afternoons 2pm to 4pm
The Hive, Worcester Second Thursday of every month 7pm to 8pm

Councillor Marcus Hart, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “Libraries in each district have become hubs for residents to find trusted information about how they can help, access a wide variety of information and will also be locations where Ukrainian families can meet. The stock of books that will be useful for our Ukrainian guests have also been increased. Libraries are very much community hubs, offering services for the whole community all year round, and I’m really grateful that our team have worked hard to ensure that our guests have the support they need as they continue to settle. Host families are encouraged to bring their Ukrainian guests to their local library, so they can see for themselves the role public libraries in the UK play in providing a safe, welcoming and social space as they adapt to their new environment.”

Other library activities and resources that can support Ukranian guests include:

  • activities for children of all ages
  • free access to public computers and free WiFi
  • printing and photocopying facilities
  • access to Job Clubs
  • free access to digital newspapers and magazines (in many languages)
  • loan of free books for education and entertainment
  • information and books to help you settle in the UK
  • access to free eBooks and eAudio books in your language (via an app)
