Winter can be a tough time for many as the nights draw in and the cold weather takes hold, but did you know that learning a new skill is actually a great way of boosting your mental health and wellbeing?
Whether it’s something you’ve always wanted to learn but keep putting off, or you’re looking for something new to occupy the shorter days, Worcestershire County Council’s Adult Learning team will have something for you!
Courses starting in January offer the opportunity to take the first steps to a new career or sharpen essential skills with qualifications such as Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools and Essential Digital Skills, alongside short, non-qualification courses like Helping with Maths Homework as a Parent and Understanding Dyslexia – which is a new offering for 2022.
Councillor Marc Bayliss, Cabinet Member for Economy & Skills, said: “This time of year can be tough for many in the community and we’re so pleased to be able to deliver courses that not only teaches our learners new skills and qualifications, but also brings people together when they need it most.”
For those wanting to meet challenges in their health and wellbeing, Adult Learning Worcestershire deliver workshops that allow your creative juices to flow, including Funky Art, Knitting, Sewing and Watercolours for Beginners. Routes to Wellbeing, Positive Me, Family Wellness and the Moodmaster Emotional Resilience Programme all offer practical solutions to a healthier lifestyle.
Throughout the year, Adult Learning Worcestershire offer over 400 different courses and workshops that can be joined online and in easy-to-access venues across Worcestershire, including libraries, community centres and schools.
Adult Learning is hosting an open day on Friday 14 January from 9am to 12pm at The Fairfield Centre, Warndon, WR4 9HG where visitors will have the opportunity to find out more about the courses, see how they’re taught and have a tour of the facilities with free tea and toast.
More information on courses and over-the-phone advice appointments held by experienced professionals can be found on the dedicated Adult Learning pages of the County Council website.
