Anita Arscott Brookes, Menopause Champion

Public Health in Worcestershire is delighted to be supporting the group, Stronger Together, as they host a free Menopause Workshop for their local North Worcestershire community and the surrounding areas.

The session will be taking place on Saturday 18 May between 10am and 11.30 am in the Heath Suite at Becketts Farm.

Leading the session is Anita Arscott Brookes, who has been an accredited menopause champion with the Menopause Experts Group Ltd for over two years.

The session will cover some key questions including;  What is the menopause?, What’s happening to me? and How can I help myself?

Anita said: “I’m delighted to be working with Stronger Together to raise awareness of the menopause in our community. We are all touched by the menopause, either personally or through family members, partners, friends or colleagues. That’s why this session is designed for everyone! You may be familiar with symptoms such as hot flushes or night sweats, but there may also be mental health symptoms such as anxiety, stress or even depression. The more we understand, the more we can support each other.”

She added: “I completed the training initially because I wanted to understand more about my experience.  After I completed my training, I felt so empowered with my new-found knowledge, I knew I had to share it with others. My accreditation allows me to work with the community and businesses to talk ‘all things menopause’ and help people navigate this transition.”

There will be opportunities to ask questions in a relaxed, informal environment to allow people to take all they can from the session.

With the help of a small grant from Public Health in Worcestershire, Stronger Together has been able to expand their support in Wythall and Hollywood and bring the community together over the past year.

Lisa McNally, Director of Public Health in Worcestershire, said: “It’s great that Stronger Together is hosting a session for their local community to learn more about the Menopause. The menopause affects everyone to a certain extent, whether it be those who go through it, or their family members and support network. Public Health in Worcestershire are really pleased to be providing funding that brings support directly into local communities.”

John Blewitt, Founder of Stronger Together added: “This session is an ideal opportunity for people to come together, learn more about the menopause, and have a conversation about something that will affect a lot of people in some shape or form. Discussing and learning from others, is a great first step to feeling educated and more in control. We’re really looking forward to welcoming Anita to Wythall.”

To book your place, simply email strongertogethernw@gmail.com, places are limited.

Other events Stronger Together hosts includes meetings at Wythall library on the first Saturday of the month between 2 pm and 4 pm, and Yoga sessions the second and fourth Monday evening of the month in the School Hall at Woodrush High School. Another member of the group member organises entering a quiz team at an event at Wythall House on the first Monday of every month.

They now also support people who feel they could benefit from counselling but need a helping hand to try it out. Working together with a professional counselling service, Stronger Together provides local people with three free counselling taster sessions, to see if counselling works for them.
