Launch of new Specialist Fostering Scheme

The new scheme is looking for people to provide short term, long term, or a permanent family home for a child or young person aged 5-18 years old, who have experienced a number of challenges in their family life and who have a range of high level needs that require a specialist skilled foster carer.

Worcestershire Children First Fostering value family life for all children, and family care for some children means foster care. Whilst residential care has its place for some children, they aim to prevent this or make it short term and wherever possible move children into a fostering family when it is identified as in their best interest. 

Councillor Steve Mackay, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Children and Families at Worcestershire County Council said, "We know that some children need extra care so we have developed Worcestershire Children First Specialist Fostering. The scheme is a wonderful opportunity for those with the relevant skills and experience to provide a loving home for a child. Across Worcestershire we have many young children, 11 and under who are currently living in residential care, and we want to find suitable foster carers for them.

In return for making a difference to the life of a vulnerable child or young person you will receive ongoing professional development and training and an enhanced fee payment of £1,000 per week plus age-related allowance. You will also receive support from the service including your own social worker and access to regular support groups and activities for you and your family and paid membership to Foster Talk which provides advice and many benefits.
