Families on Track is part of the Worcester City Runs weekend and families are invited to sign up to take part as a whole family unit together.
Mum, Dad, children, grandparents, or any other family members can complete the 10km distance as a continuous relay, in whichever order or combination they wish to. It’s going to be held on the morning of Saturday 16 September, at Worcester Racecourse.
Public Health in Worcestershire is offering 20 free places, as part of its programme to encourage families to have active and healthy lifestyles.
Don’t delay as time is running out for teams to secure their place and join athletics legend Paula Radcliffe. The deadline for entries is midnight on Wednesday 13 September.
To request a voucher please contact Worcestershire County Council Public Health via hwbadmin@worcestershire.gov.uk
A member of the team will contact you with a unique one-time entry code, which you can use to register your family for the event via the Worcester City Run website.
Lisa McNally, Director of Public Health in Worcestershire said: “I am delighted that Public Health has made 20 places available to help families take part in this fun, and safe event. Providing events, programmes and interventions for families as a unit is a great way to encourage whole families to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle.”
The Worcester City Runs are being organised by Events of the North, in partnership with Worcester City Council and official charity partner, Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity. Founded in 2014, the event attracts thousands of runners and spectators to the city every September for half marathon, 10k, and junior and family runs. This year, the annual festival of running will take place on 16 and 17 September, during a big weekend for events in the city, alongside Worcester Paint Festival and Worcester Music Festival.
The brainchild of athletics legend Paula Radcliffe, Families on Track gives family groups the opportunity to complete a 10k distance in a continuous relay in laps of either 1,000m, 500m or 250m, in a safe setting and format that allows everyone to contribute, no matter what their age or ability.
Paula Radcliffe herself will be at this year’s Families on Track event at the Worcester City Runs, not only to make sure that everything runs smoothly, but also to participate. Families who take part will have the opportunity to run alongside Paula as she helps her own team to complete the 10k. The deadline for entries is midnight on Wednesday 13 September and they can be booked online at www.worcestercityrun.com.
Paula Radcliffe added: “We’re really excited about bringing Families on Track to Worcester again this year. There’s always a brilliant welcome and atmosphere in the city and it’s a beautiful place to hold an event like this. It’s great that Worcestershire County Council is using this opportunity to encourage families to exercise together, helping us to reach even more people with these vital messages and events that can make such a positive difference to the physical and mental health of people of all ages. I look forward to meeting all of the families and running with them on 16 September.”
Starting at 11am, family teams of between three and five runners can take part, with at least one member aged under 16 and one aged 18 or over.
Changeovers take place in a central area at the racecourse that will be a hub of activity and entertainment. A team place for a family group costs £45, which includes a Paula’s Families on Track t-shirt, medal and event goody bag for every team member.
