Worcestershire County Council’s Let’s Waste Less campaign is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help spread the word about waste reduction and sustainable living across the county!
As a Let’s Waste Less volunteer, you’ll play a key role in helping your community cut down on waste. From chatting with residents at major events like the Worcester Show to hosting informal pop-ups at coffee mornings, supporting home composting efforts, working with schools, or even writing social media posts, the opportunities are varied and rewarding! Current volunteers love engaging with people and helping them discover simple ways to reduce what goes into their black bins.
No experience? No problem! You don’t need to be a waste expert - just have an interest in making a difference. Plus, you can volunteer as much or as little as you like.
The County Council provides full training, ensuring that you have the knowledge and resources to confidently advise and educate others. The next training session is set for Tuesday, 18 March 2025, from 10am to 1pm at The Hive, Worcester.
As a volunteer, you’ll also enjoy free membership to Garden Organic, the UK’s leading gardening and composting charity, which manages the volunteer program. This gives you access to expert resources, ongoing support, and a network of like-minded sustainability champions.
Long-time volunteer, Nina, shared her experience: “Reducing waste has always made so much sense to me. Many people don’t realize the small changes they can make. I love attending events and chatting about simple solutions, whether it’s using a Repair Café, storing food better, or managing a compost heap.”
Fellow waste champion, Diana, added: “I enjoy helping people with composting, recycling, and food waste, but the conversations often expand to sustainable living, reducing plastic, supporting biodiversity, and healthy eating.”
If you're ready to make a real impact and join a friendly community of waste warriors, the County Council would love to hear from you! For more details on upcoming training session or to sign up as a volunteer, contact Paddy Halling at Garden Organic at 07900 900736 or email phalling@gardenorganic.org.uk.
