The consultation period for residents to have their say on the future location of Redditch Library begins today.

It will run for just over 90 days until Friday 24 February 2023, taking into account the Christmas and New Year holidays.

The consultation will focus on usage of the library, what library services are of most importance to customers and local residents, and the proposed change in location of the library, giving residents an opportunity to tell us what they think of the plans.

Councillor Marcus Hart, Cabinet Member for Communities at Worcestershire County Council, said: “The Redditch Library consultation is an opportunity for us to share the proposed library relocation plans with Redditch residents and community organisations, and across wider Worcestershire, so that people can provide their views and make suggestions. We can then share these with the Borough Council as they move their town deal proposals forward. We want to ensure the consultation is available in a number of formats, accessible to all, and that everyone will get the opportunity to have their say.

The County Council and the relevant project teams have a strong commitment to ensuring that Redditch Library continues to provide the same important service to residents and community groups within the town and have specified that if the library relocation goes ahead, library floor space will remain equal to, or similar to, the current floorspace, and will be arranged in a prominent and visible location. There will be no reduction in library services and the library service will remain accessible to all.”

Redditch Library is one of 21 libraries across Worcestershire. It serves the second-largest catchment population (86,819) behind The Hive (105,312) and is the second-busiest library in terms of customer activity.

Worcestershire County Council has operated from the current building for around 50 years with the Jobcentre Plus moving there in April 2018.
