Residents of Worcestershire are being encouraged to send in their recipes for their favourite toasted sandwiches, with an opportunity to win £50 worth of Love2Shop vouchers.
As part of Worcestershire County Council’s food waste reduction campaign #FoodSavvy, the #TastyToastie competition is seeking to find the most unusual or inspired recipes to use up those items at the back of your fridge in a tasty snack.
The deadline for the competition is Monday 8 July to ensure that everyone who is interested in sharing their recipes can be included.
Last year’s competition winner, Alex Eastough from Bromsgrove, came up with the idea of using Alphabet Spaghetti, bacon, mushrooms and cheese in her toastie, all of which are often left in pots in the fridge.
A Spokesperson from Worcestershire County Council’s Waste Team said: “20 million slices of bread are wasted every day in the UK, so making toastie sandwiches is a great way of using up stale bread and those bits that are often left at the back of the fridge such as cheese, vegetables and ham. Pretty much anything and everything can be made into a #TastyToastie so we are hoping our residents will send us unusual ideas to inspire others – the crazier the better! There’s a winner’s prize of £50 of Love2Shop vouchers and two runners up prizes of £30 of Love2Shop vouchers”.
Residents can submit their recipes and photos of their #TastyToastie via letswasteless@worcestershire.gov.uk or by post to Emma Stuart, Waste Prevention Project Manager, Worcestershire County Council, County Hall, Spetchley Road, Worcester WR5 2NP.
