Budding Archaeologists are invited to join a ‘Family Archaeology Quest’ at libraries across Worcestershire.
The free half term activity will be led by expert staff from the Worcestershire Archives and Archaeology team.
Families will be able to try their hands at several challenges to give them an insight into common archaeology techniques. Challenges will include ‘Stone or Bone?’, ‘Coin Challenge’, ‘Identify Pottery, ‘Spot the difference on a map’ and ‘What material would last the longest?’
Ian Mackey, Community Project Officer, said, “We’re looking forward to taking our Family Archaeology Quest to libraries this half term. It’s great to be able to get out and meet people again. We have a number of challenges for children to have a go at, and discover what it’s like to be an archaeologist”
The sessions, which will be held outdoors, will last up to 25 minutes and are available between 10am to 1pm at Alvechurch Library on Tuesday 1 June, Malvern Library on Wednesday 2 June, Rubery Library on Thursday 3 June and The Hive on Friday 4 June.
Attendees at The Hive sessions will also have the opportunity to explore additional archive and archaeology items and see how the history of the site is recorded within the grounds.
In line with current Covid restrictions, capacity at each session is limited to a maximum of 6 people or 2 households.
Tickets for the events must be booked in advance online via the ‘What’s On’ page on the Explore the Past website.
Matt Dormer, Cabinet Member with Responsibilities for Communities said: “The Worcestershire Archives and Archaeology Service provides a range of opportunities for people to ‘Explore the Past’. The Family Archaeology Quest event over half term gives the next generation of archaeologists a chance to get involved and be inspired.”
