Major additional investment will be made to improve and maintain the county’s footways over the next three years.
In the budget for 2022 to 2023, which was approved at February’s Full Council meeting, Worcestershire County Council made the commitment to invest in further improvements to the county’s footpaths.
Footways will see an increase in investment, with an additional £4 million per year, for the next three years, on top of money already committed to improve and maintain the county’s footways. This will enable the provision of 108 more miles of improved footway.
Councillor Alan Amos, Worcestershire County Council's Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Highways and Transport, said: “The investment pledged in this year’s budget to improve the county’s footways is at the highest level ever.
“This funding is not just for one year but for three, guaranteed. It will enable the County Council to continue the work of maintaining our current footways and adding additional capacity, improving accessibility in all parts of the county.
“We’re aware that well maintained and new footways are important to our residents’ and this budget shows our commitment to ensuring our footpaths are ready for everyone to use.”
Increased investment has also been allocated for the county’s highways, with an additional £6 million a year, for three years, to improve and maintain the county’s roads.
