Councillor Chris Rogers elected new County Council chairman

Chris has been a County Councillor, representing the Stourport on Severn division in the Wyre Forest area since 2017, and currently shares the area with Councillor Paul Harrison.

He will be taking over the role from Councillor Steve Mackay, who was elected chairman in May last year.

Councillor Chris Rogers, Chairman of Worcestershire County Council said: “I’m really honoured to be taking on the role of Chairman for the next Civic year. I’d like to thank my predecessor Steve Mackay for representing the county so well during his time as chairman as we continued to come forward from the height of the Coronavirus pandemic.

I’ve been proud to be a Worcestershire resident, at home in Stourport, for the last 30 years, and I’m looking forward to the chance to remind our residents and the county’s visitors what a great place our county is, how much it already has to offer, and how much we’re continuing to develop our wonderful Worcestershire across our four key areas and beyond. We’re very blessed to have a county that is 85% rural; in the current economic sector, our county is at the forefront of food production. I’m keen during my time as Chairman to shine a light on this sector.”

The former Hi-Fi technical journalist, spent 20 years designing professional audio equipment before becoming a councillor.

He has also travelled the world as road crew for various bands, and is very keen to use his time in post to prove that Worcestershire is a great place to visit whilst championing rural life and rural businesses.

Councillor Kyle Daisley has been appointed Vice Chairman for the new Civic year.

The County Councillor for Bromsgrove South has become the youngest Vice Chairman, the County Council has ever had.
