Improvements for Bromsgrove’s town centre are set to move on to the next phase.

The improvement works in the High Street are due to finish ahead of schedule later this month.  These works are part of the town centre improvement scheme funded by the UK Government.

The next set of improvements will then commence in Chapel Street.  This includes new natural stone paving to complement the rest of the High Street, the introduction of new street tree, cycle parking, and benches, as well as improving drainage and the removal of excessive street clutter.

Work is scheduled to start in Chapel Street during the week commencing 19 August 2024, and the works are programmed to last for up to 12 weeks.

Councillor Marc Bayliss, Worcestershire County Council's Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Transport and Highways said: "These improvement works have continued at pace over the past few weeks and it’s great that we will be able to open the High Street up to traffic, well ahead of schedule.”
“The work has made a real difference, making the area more attractive for businesses, residents, and visitors, not only improving the environment but also driving economic growth and jobs. I’m delighted that this is now set to continue into Chapel Street.

“I’d like to thank the residents and businesses for their patience and support during the closures and restrictions in the area. It’s not been easy, but it’s pleasing to see the result.”

The work will be carried out Monday to Friday. Pedestrian access will be maintained to frontages at all times; however, vehicle access will be restricted. For safety reasons, a pedestrian diversion will be in place between Windsor Street and the High Street for works at the south end of Chapel Street.

Bromsgrove District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Economic Development And Regeneration, Councillor Sue Baxter said: “We worked really hard to secure this funding and it is wonderful seeing the projects it was earmarked for coming to fruition. I appreciate there has been disruption and there is still a little more to come but the end result will make such a difference to the town from not only a visual point of view but from that of economic growth.”

Bromsgrove District Council was successful in its bid for funding from the UK Government. As a result, Worcestershire County Council is working in partnership with the District Council to deliver these public space improvements in the town centre.
