Residents in Worcestershire are set to receive a £500 incentive to sign up to an apprenticeship, thanks to the launch of a new scheme spearheaded by Worcestershire County Council.
The County Council, alongside Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership (WLEP) have launched the Worcestershire Apprenticeship Account (WA Account) and Bursary. It offers residents, aged 16-24 the opportunity to receive free funding to use on clothing, travel, tools, and equipment needed to complete their apprenticeship.
The bursary, backed by open4business is exclusively available to people living in Worcestershire who apply and obtain their apprenticeship through the new WA Account.
The WA Account is designed to ease the process of apprenticeship application, making it simpler for residents to register their interest, apply, and directly contact apprenticeship providers so they can obtain the right apprenticeship for them, all in one place.
Judy Gibbs, Worcestershire County Council’s Head of Skills and Investment said: “This is a fantastic scheme that can make a huge difference to residents right across the county. With the WA Account, you can sign up, choose the apprenticeship they’re interested in, submit an expression of interest and once they secure and confirm it, they’ll get £250 upfront to spend on their apprenticeship. They can then use the remaining £250 to be reimbursed for other apprenticeship expenses.
Apprenticeships offer people a great employability pathway, and for local employers they are vital in future-proofing a workforce.
With the WA Account and Bursary, we can really invest in and support Worcestershire school leavers, young adults, residents, and in turn its businesses, by giving apprentices a real helping hand. Thanks to this funding boost, we will be able to help up to 1,000 young people kickstart their apprenticeship journey!”
