Adult Learning Worcestershire have been supporting the county’s Ukrainian guests to improve their language skills at an intensive English workshop all this week.

The classes have been running every day this week at Wildwood to help Ukrainian guests improve their English as they settle into the county.

The ‘Welcome to Worcestershire‘ workshop focuses on learning the language when it comes to:

  • Worcester - places in town, public transport, giving/asking directions, Shopping (food and quantities, local shops, making complaints/solving problems),
  • work - jobs people do, skills needed, where to look for jobs.
  • health - GP/pharmacists, discussing healthcare, making appointment etc.

Mark Fitton, Interim Strategic Director of People, said: “It’s been wonderful to see our guests develop their English as they continue to make Worcestershire their second home, and I’d like to thank Adult Learning Worcestershire for putting on these sessions to help with something that we should never take for granted, the power to communicate with those around you.”

The County Council’s Adult Learning Team is also running Cultural Awareness Briefings  for County Council and District Councils staff, Schools and Sponsor families which have been well received so far.

The already established and well known Here2Help service run by the County Council has evolved to support and link up those wishing to offer help to those who may need help or advice.

If residents and business would like to offer any kind of support, they can register by visiting the Here2Help webpage. If they are unable to register online then they can call 01905 768053.
