Court Ushers make sure that everyone involved with a court case is present and that they know what to do.
- Prepare the courtrooms
- Meet and greet court victors
- Check everyone is present such as witnesses, defendants, and lawyers
- Call witnesses and defendants into court
- Keep order in the public areas
- Do filing and photocopying
Court ushers work in courts and also in offices.
Normal working hours are around 37 hours per week.
Starting salary: £18,000
Experienced salary: up to £24,500
You could apply directly for jobs. You'll usually need at least 2 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) including English. Experience in a similar role like customer service or office administration will be useful. Employers will also look at your personal qualities and life experience. You could also apply for an apprenticeship. If you have an EHCP you may be able to apply under the DfE exemption which allows the apprentice to use Entry level 3 English and Maths qualifications.
The apprentice would have to be component enough to successfully achieve all other aspects of the apprenticeship requirements, become occupationally competent and achieve Entry Level 3 in English and Maths before the end of their apprenticeship.
