Bread custards
A great way to use up sliced bread, these custards are so easy to make and are sure to be a winner with all the family. Why not add your favourite fruit to make them extra special.
Ingredients: (Makes 12)
- 12 slice bread
- 50g butter or margarine
- 1 egg
- 200ml milk, any
- 1 dsp sugar
- Small dash vanilla essence
Method:
- Preheat your oven to 170°C/325°F/Gas mark 3.
- Remove the crusts from the bread and butter both sides. The crusts can be used to make breadcrumbs.
- Put the bread slice in a muffin tin to make a basket.
- Whisk together the egg, milk, sugar and vanilla essence and pour into the bread case.
- Cook for 18-20 minutes until set. Leave for 10 minutes before removing from the tin.
#FoodSavvy tip: For a sweeter custard try adding your favourite fruit or jam before pouring in the custard.
