From Saturday 24th June, children aged 4 – 12 years will be able to join the Summer Reading Challenge.

The Summer Reading Challenge takes place every year and is a national scheme produced by The Reading Agency delivered by libraries. Each year there is a new theme and in 2017 libraries everywhere will be celebrating around the theme of Animal Agents accompanied by Tony Ross' wonderful illustrations.

Children's reading can 'dip' during the long summer holidays if they don’t have regular access to books and encouragement to read for pleasure. This can be a problem for schools to put right in the new term, and The Reading Agency’s annual Summer Reading Challenge really helps by getting three quarters of a million children into libraries over the summer. There is no other free reading activity that involves so many children, introduces families to their library, encourages children to choose books freely and independently and is endorsed by parents, teachers and the Department for Education.

Worcestershire's libraries are organising lots of activities in connection with the challenge (ask in your local library for details), and as part of the challenge there are special collector cards for every book children read and other incentives along the way and what's more it's all FREE so there are plenty of great reasons to sign up as soon as possible.
